Monetize Your Idle GPUs With Shadeform Spot → List your nodes
Good morning. It's Friday, October 23, and we're covering how AI agents will accelerate brain disease research, how hackers are coordinating models to attack banks, and Anthropic’s Claude Duet launch.
Plus: yesterday’s poll results on Tesla-SpaceX merger, a Friday Fact on lava lamps, and an essay on AI’s language translation gap.

China-aligned hackers reportedly spied on thousands of companies after breaching IT provider ConnectWise, with Microsoft linking the campaign to attackers using AI agents to accelerate their operations. The breach highlights a dangerous combination: trusted vendors give attackers access to many businesses, while AI helps them exploit that access faster.
Claude Duet is a proactive agent app for professionals and small businesses that can monitor connected work, build briefings and complete background tasks. The research preview is opening by waitlist to U.S. Claude Pro and Max subscribers on iOS, Android and the web, with approval required before sensitive actions such as payments.
OpenAI’s Decisions API is now generally available, handling tasks such as classifying inputs, routing requests and choosing an agent’s next action. Built on GPT‑6 Luna, it delivers bounded answers up to 10 times faster than the same model through the Responses API, according to OpenAI.
1Password for Agents lets AI assistants request permission to use saved credentials, then fills them directly into the destination website without exposing the password to the agent. The launch addresses a practical obstacle to useful automation: giving agents access to accounts while keeping users in control of their secrets.

AI Translates Swedish Better Than Hindi

My team recently tested how well the newest AI models from leading frontier labs translate seven languages. Swedish has about 10 million speakers, while Hindi has about 600 million. You might expect the models to do better in Hindi. Instead, Swedish got some of the best translations in the study, while Hindi was among the worst. Across all seven languages, the number of speakers had almost nothing to do with translation quality. → Read the full article here.

Thousands of AI Agents Search Brain Data in 32 Minutes

OpenAI, PerturbAI and Scripps Research sent thousands of GPT-Rosalind agents through data from millions of mouse brain cells. In 32 minutes, the agents connected gene disruptions with scientific literature and surfaced possible links to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s that could guide follow-up experiments.
The system does not replace laboratory validation, but it changes which bottleneck comes first: scientists can examine far more of a massive dataset before deciding what to test in the lab. Watch whether independent teams can reproduce the ranked leads and turn them into useful disease research. → Read the full article here.

Trump Administration Bets on AI to Reshape American Science

White House science adviser Michael Kratsios outlined the Trump administration’s “Science: A New Golden Age” plan to accelerate scientific discovery through artificial intelligence, expanded public-private partnerships and changes to research funding. At its center is the Genesis Mission, which aims to give federal researchers access to advanced AI capabilities, alongside plans to release 190 federal datasets to support scientific AI development. → Read the full article here. Recursive Launches Flint, a Laptop Coding Model Built With AI

AI startup Recursive released Flint on October 21, 2026, a free coding model designed to run locally on laptops and developed largely with the help of AI. The company says its automated research system, Eureka Machine, supported nearly every stage of development, allowing a small team to build the model from scratch in under four months.
Flint uses a mixture-of-experts architecture with 40 billion parameters but activates just 2.5 billion per task, helping it run efficiently on consumer hardware. → Read the full article here.

Lava Lamps Help Keep the Internet Secure
Cloudflare films a wall of lava lamps and turns images of their swirling blobs into data. Because the patterns are unpredictable, they provide a useful ingredient for encryption: randomness.
That data gets mixed with other sources of randomness to help secure internet connections. So those slowly drifting blobs aren’t just decoration—they’re helping protect information online
